Hayakawa Yoshio was born in 1917 in Osaka, and led the postwar graphic design world in Japan for many years. He had a far-reaching influence on younger designers, and was active until his sudden death in March 2009. Characterized by an urban sense that may be called “Japanesque modernism,” his numerous pieces of commercial advertisement and graphic art show unrestrained conception, bold composition and an outstanding sense of color. Hayakawa steadfastly maintained his stance as an illustrator full of intuitive personality. part.1 = Nagai Kazumasa
