Tanaka Atsuko was a prominent member of the Gutai Art Association (or simply \u201cGutai\u201d), which was formed by a group of young artists based in the Kansai region, and led by the avant-garde artist Yoshihara Jiro. Tanaka, who was interested in expressions of sound, light, and color, showed a work titled Electric Dress, consisting of hundreds of colored light bulbs and electrical cords that blinked on and off, at the 2nd Gutai Art Exhibition held at Tokyo\u2019s Ohara Hall in 1956. Drawings made in preparation for the work depict a tangle of circles (light bulbs) and curved lines (cords), but this approach gradually evolved into paintings like Work 66-SA.
