The following is a poem by the artist Ikemura Leiko: \u201cGirls, be sure and touch the earth \/ When you lay down \/ you\u2019ll be able to move back and forth \/ between this world and the next one.\u201d The mystique of this poem is bolstered by the choice of materials, colors, and motifs in this work. The multiple layers of paint permeate the coarse jute, creating a blurring effect. A band of light extends across the black background.
