This painting is one of C\u00e9zanne\u2019s epic still lifes, featuring a flower motif. A large bouquet fills a vase in the center of the picture, creating a gorgeous image. At the same time, the artist intentionally structures the space, made up of the radiating expanse of the bouquet, table and rear wall, as a thoroughly two-dimensional picture. He accomplishes this with elements such as the gradually rising, distorted surface of the table, the folds in the tablecloth that counteract this shape, and the leaves and flowers separated from the stalks and branches.
