The influence of the region\u2019s luminous environment on Bonnard\u2019s style, especially his use of color, is immeasurable. In addition to purple and yellow, favorites of Bonnard\u2019s, the canvas is awash in various shimmering tones of green, pink, blue, and white, so it seems as if one were peering inside a jewel box. For this number of colors (also note the great diversity of brushstrokes) to be incorporated into a single painting, which maintains a sense of tension while maintaining its integrity as a whole, is an amazing feat.
