This is not only because the work is painted but also because the structure conveys a strong feeling of movement and a lack of stability while minimizing the points of contact. Caro began working on his Table Piece series of tabletop sculptures 1966. As in this work, the sculptures entwine themselves around the stand and protrude from or hang over the edge.
