Rosso began his career in Milan, then moved to Paris at the end of the 19th century. Although he was far from prolific, he made quite a few works that are considered highly important. Ecce Puer (Behold the Boy) depicts a subject Rosso pursued at the end of his career, and it is widely regarded as his finest work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major distinguishing feature of Rosso\u2019s work is his use of wax. The translucence of this material lets the sculptures catch and diffuse light across their surfaces so that they seem to blend with the surrounding space. This quality contributes to descriptions of Rosso\u2019s sculptures as painterly, and to considerations of their connection to French Impressionism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this exhibition, we explore several themes derived from Rosso\u2019s art by showing it alongside works from his own time and from the present day.
