Art Library Reopening: Requests to Visitors

Summary

From July 7, 2020 until further notice, the Art Library of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo asks visitors to make an advance reservation.

Opening Hours

Open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

 *Make a reservation until a week before your visit.

 *Closed on holidays and maintenance days

Timeframes

Morning:     10:30 AM–1:00 PM, up to two visitors

Afternoon:   2:00–4:30 PM, up to two visitors

 *Only four reading desks are available. Reserved seats are arranged alternately to avoid face-to-face contact.

 *You can reserve up to one timeframe a day.

 *Even if the next timeframe is unreserved, you are asked to leave to avoid a long stay.

 *You are asked to come alone.

 *If you need a helper, let us know at the time of reservation.

Number of Materials

You can request up to five materials.

 *You cannot request additional materials on the day of your visit.

Photocopy Service

Complete a Photocopy Request Form and make photocopies yourself.

You are asked to make photocopy requests until thirty minutes before the end of the timeframe.

Per copy fee including tax:

black-and-white: 30 yen

color: 100 yen

*Please have small change or a thousand-yen bill ready.

Available sizes: A4, B4 and A3

*No enlargement or reduction

Services to be suspended

To prevent infection, the following services are suspended after reopening.

  • Use of the OPAC terminals in the Library
  • Reference Service in the Reading Room
  • Pencils for free loan (Please make sure you bring pencils. Do not use writing implements other than pencils.)
  • Use of audiovisual materials
  • Use of microfilm

 

How to make a reservation

(1) How to find materials

Use the museum’s Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) to find materials and complete the Reservation Form.

(2) Control measures against COVID-19

  1. Read the “Notice to visitors” beforehand.
  2. We take your temperature using a non-contact thermometer. If your temperature is above 37.5 degrees Celsius or 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit, you are asked to leave.
  3. Tell the staff at the museum’s Information Counter that you have made a reservation at the Art Library and come to the Library.
  4. Visitors are required to wear a face mask in the building including while reading.
  5. Put your baggage in one of the coin lockers by the Library’s entrance. Refrain from bringing anything other than pencils, laptops, and valuables into the Reading Room.
  6. Wash and sterilize your hands before entering the Library.
  7. We get the requested materials ready beforehand. Take the seat indicated by our staff.

(3) About your personal information

Personal information you provide upon reservation such as name and phone number will be used only for the library services.
However, such information may be provided to a third party if:

  1. required by law; or
  2. reasonably requested by the authorities including a health center.
