Commentary

This five-story structure in Hokan-ji Temple, also known as Yasaka Pagoda, is located in Higashiyama, Kyoto. The area in the foreground is packed with utility poles and houses. Transcending time, the combination of the solemn, durable pagoda and the slowly changing town creates a striking contrast. No matter how much time passes and how much society changes, the beauty and presence of the famous structure, quietly towering in the air, remains conspicuous.
