Commentary
Pedernal is a 3,006-meter-high mesa in the US state of New Mexico. The nature and culture of New Mexico were sources of inspiration for the artist, and in 1940 she purchased land with a view of Pedernal and established a studio there (incidentally, her ashes were also scattered on the mesa). In 1956, this museum also received a gift from O’Keeffe herself of work by her husband, the photographer Alfred Stieglitz.
