Believing that “painting on top of a finished canvas results in yet another layer,” Kobayashi tries his best to make a frame, stretch canvas across it, and apply paint to it all at the same time. His struggles with the canvas and frame, and his dance-like methodology, in which he puts paint on his hands, often produce works of this sort (basically, he never uses brushes). But a glance at the title reveals that the work is called Unnamed. So what is this entity, lacking either title or name? Perhaps it is something in the process of being born.
