About the Exhibition
Rich nature, cultural traditions, painful history and dilemmatic political conditions of Okinawa have driven artists of diverse origins to creative activities. This show examines the relationship between Okinawa’s locality and visual expression from the Meiji period (1868-1912) through to the present. More than 250 exhibits including paintings, prints, crafts, photographs and films will conjure up various images of Okinawa, raising acute questions across contemporary politics, society and culture.
