About the Exhibition
The painter Ai-Mitsu (born Nichiro Ishimura, 1907-46) produced distinctive works in the difficult prewar years. He approached the heart of the subject, got to the bottom of realism, transcended it, and reached a unique world of fantasy. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth, this retrospective presents all of his important works that retain their strong appeal to this day.
