About the Exhibition

Created in China from longing for gems, celadon is porcelain characterized by beautiful green glaze. Presenting masterpieces from the Southern Sung period that continue to fascinate many people, excellent pieces by ITAYA Hazan and OKABE Mineo who have earned their places in the history of modern Japanese ceramic art, and latest pieces by Living National Treasures and up-and-coming ceramists who utilize the techniques and spirits inherited from precursors in our time, this exhibition focuses on the charm of celadon through pieces that reflect the times.

About the Sections

Section 2

We will introduce unique Celadon works made by some of the most distinguished names in modern ceramic art history. In particular, we look into and validate the achievements of works by OKABE Mineo, who greatly contributed to expanding the freedom of expression through Celadon.

Section 3

From “Living National Treasures” to young, aspired artists, we will exhibit Celadon works from 10 active ceramic artists, which will provide us an opportunity to look into the resonance of Celadon works, as well as the artists’ passion into creating them.
