Yutaka Takanashi: Field Notes of Light

About the Exhibition
The nearly fifty-year career of photographer Yutaka Takanashi (b. 1935) has centered on the “city.” He has changed cameras and manners of walking around, and sometimes traced accumulations of time vertically. Shifting his methodology from piece to piece, Takanashi has created what might be called a “city-like” pile of works that has itself a multilayered structure. From the masterpieces Tokyoites (1966) and Town (1977) to most recent pieces, this show traces Takanashi’s ongoing undertaking that let urban aspects emerge in his photographs.
