About the Exhibition

Throughout the development of modern craft and design, Nature has consistently served as a primary source of inspiration. Animals, of course, are no exception to this tradition.

Modern craft has explored a vast range of animal expressions, from exquisite figurines that realistically mimic the forms of their subjects to distinctive patterns that boldly reimagine animals by emphasizing the inherent qualities of the materials. The variety of creatures depicted is equally broad. In addition to classical motifs such as the twelve animals of the East Asian zodiac, the collection includes works featuring exotic creatures like elephants and leopards, as well as familiar beings such as birds and insects.

Focusing on these animal motifs, this exhibition showcases approximately eighty works from the museum’s collection, tracing the presence of animals in craft and design from the modern period to the present day.
