About the Exhibition
498Next autumn marks the sixtieth anniversary of the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition that began in 1954 when the system for designating important intangible cultural properties was introduced. In addition to handing down techniques, artists have developed new traditions by aiming to create works based on individual sense of beauty. Celebrating the memorable year, this exhibition presents pieces by active artists showing new ideas and deep thoughts to look at the future of traditional crafts.
