Don’t you sometimes find yourself thinking, “I wish I had something like this in my house”? Perhaps it’s feelings like this that make us want to go out and get things that we come across in our daily routine. On the other hand, this kind of flight of fancy can also inspire a creator to come up with something new. Designers and crafts artists make all kinds of different receptacles and furniture based on the dream of a life that is more comfortable, beautiful, and colorful for themselves or someone else.
In this exhibition, we present design and craft works from the gallery’s collection by artists such as Christopher Dresser (1834-1904), Tomimoto Kenkichi (1886-1963), and Lucie Rie (1902-1995). Today, more than ever, we are reconsidering what it means to spend time at home and how we relate to society. Why not join us as we look back at the ideas of these creators, who believed in the ability of design and crafts to enrich our lives, and consider how things might be in the future?
