About
Basho-fu is said to be “the most Okinawan textile born of the islands’ climate,” but today its production method is handed down only in Kijoka area, Ogimi Village of Okinawa’s main island. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the designation of this textile as an Important Intangible Cultural Property, this exhibition focuses on the fascination of basho-fu, featuring works by the late TAIRA Toshiko, a living national treasure who devoted herself to the revival of the technique, and her workshop, as well as historical masterpieces.
