Japanese people have long embraced seasonal flowers and colors to enjoy their daily lives. Many artists have sought themes in familiar nature, representing, for example, spring flowers such as camellias, cherry blossoms, and peonies in their various works. The familiarity of these flowers highlights the technique and individuality of each artist. Craftspeople have also produced many flower vases, vessels used to incorporate flowers into daily life.
This exhibition will present craft and design works featuring flowers blooming in spring and summer and other plant motifs, as well as vessels for flowers, mainly from the collection of the National Crafts Museum. We have assembled a selection of works featuring flowers that can be seen around us during the run of this exhibition. We hope that this exhibition will renew your attention to the relationship between familiar nature, and crafts and design.
※Some of the works on display will change during this exhibition. [first seciton: 3/14-5/6 ; second section: 5/8-6/22]
